Thermographic Inspections & Surveys
How does it work?
This method of inspecting a roof or cladding area utilising Infra Red technology to map the temperatures of an area. Every object however hot or cold emits energy. It is the measurement of this energy release which a thermographic camera measures.
During the day the radiation/heat energy from the sun is absorbed by the roofing or cladding system. As all materials release energy at different rates by recording and mapping the temperature differentials in an evening/night an experienced and qualified technician can use the data collected to determine any areas of defect.
Please note external roofing or cladding thermographic surveys are conducted during an evening/night; this is so that the energy from the sun does not distort the survey data leading to misinterpretation.
What can a Thermographic survey discover?
After conducting our thermographic survey we will analyse the data collected and produce a report of our findings. The following are some of the defects associated with roofing and cladding systems that if present can be discovered using a thermographic survey:
1. Cold bridging,
2. Missing Insulation
3. Ineffective Insulation
4. Trapped Moisture
5. Leakage paths
6. Air leakage
This method of surveying is becoming increasingly popular for flat roof systems as areas of moisture and damp can be visually seen onscreen allowing for efficient and effective targeting of repairs.
Qualified and Trained Engineers
AWM utilises the latest in thermographic camera technology from FLIR Systems. (FLIR are widely considered the best in the industry for thermographic inspection technology). All AWM engineers who perform this service are Level 1 Thermography trained.
AWM are also proud to be members of the UKTA, which is an association of those interested in thermography, created to support those involved in this field.
Reporting
AWM will compile a report for the client giving clear and concise information from which the client can take any necessary action. During our works we have conducted services for clients who are unaware of many roofing terminology and can therefore expand upon our reports so that they are comprehensible to non-technical readers.
